 Programs Associate

 

Director of Development

 

 Programs Associate

The Programs Associate will assist the Director of Programs in the administration of Foundation grants and programs. The G&P Associate will also be responsible for the implementation of the Foundation’s international awards program. Some travel is required. The position reports directly to the Director of Programs and is responsible for:

 

Key responsibilities:

  •  Assists the Director of Programs in the day to day implementation of the Foundation’s grant program complying with external regulations, and internal procedures as guided by Supervisor.
  •  Understand and interpret grant/proposal budgets and their implications and amendments.
  •  Assure that grantees are in compliance with the terms of the agreement and approved budgets; follow up on grant payments based on the agreement terms; review extension requests, recommends remedial actions as needed, and implement when approved by supervisor. 
  • Maintain needed communications with grantees in English and Spanish. 
  • Assist in the preparation of grant review packages for evaluation committees, tabulate scoring, and prepare required information for the Grants Committee’s evaluation and selection process. 
  •  Perform as “ad interim” in the absence of the Director of Programs.
  • Assist, as needed, in the development of financial procedures to ensure grant making compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and donor requirements.
  •  Perform due diligence on prospective grantees to assure their compliance with US legal requirements, Foundation procedures, and policies.
  •  Implement Foundation’s Awards for Excellence in Inter-American Public Health Program.
  •  Other awards-related tasks as requested
  •  Perform other duties as assigned. 
     

Education and experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area plus minimum of 3-4 years related experience in project/grant management.  
 

Required Skills:  

  • Able to clearly and effectively express ideas, thoughts and concepts, orally and in written formats in Spanish and English.
  •  Understands basic accounting and financial management, and can review program budgets.
  • Ability to problem solve financial issues, identifies compliance issues and effectively channel to supervisor. 
  •  Must be detail oriented.
  • Promotes and generates cooperation and teamwork among internal and external contacts while working to achieve collective outcomes.
  •  Ensures consistent, appropriate communication with others and maintains a positive outlook, responds resourcefully when challenges, arise and accepts responsibility for actions, learning, and change.
  • Demonstrates effective computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite, intranet and Internet, and various software applications and databases used in work efforts.
     

Desirable Skills:

  •  Knowledge of US regulations regarding international grant making.
  •  Portuguese and/or French desirable.

Director of Development

The Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF) seeks an experienced Director of Development to secure funding for innovative public health programs in Latin America and the Caribbean.  The Director of Development is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive, strategic fundraising plan to significantly grow the revenue resources of PAHEF.  This is a senior position requiring the ability to plan and lead successful fundraising efforts.  Experience in Latin America and in fundraising for public health projects outside the US would be a plus. Some travel is required. The position reports to the Executive Director.  Specific responsibilities include:

  • In coordination with the Board and the Executive Director, helping to identify and set PAHEF program priorities and determine needed levels of funding.
  • Working with Pan American Health Organization technical units, country offices, and collaborating centers, as well as other NGOs to identify priority programs for PAHEF support and developing a funding strategy for them.
  • Identifying prospective corporate, foundation, and individual donors and coordinating donor cultivation activities including personal visits and presentations.
  • Identifying and developing partnership opportunities with other NGO’s.
  • Overall management of the grant-seeking process, including solicitations to corporations and foundations with appropriate follow up.
  • Managing relations with existing donors.
  • Working with the finance officer in provides general guidance to the Foundation’s grant-making activities with emphasis on appropriate reporting to supporting donors.
  • Coordinating the work of the Resource Development Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Supervising the Development Associate.
  • Developing and managing a budget in support of development activities.

Skills, Experience and Education

Required

  • Significant experience in leading successful fundraising efforts in support of public health programs or in related areas of work in public or private sector organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish and able to function in a multicultural setting. 
  • Bachelors degree in an appropriate area.

Desirable

  • Experience in fundraising outside the US. Portuguese competency would be a plus.
  • Experience working with international aid or health agencies a strong plus.
  • Advanced degree in international relations or related field a plus.
