PAHEF’s support of healthcare-associated infection control and prevention efforts provides the foundation and the pathway for much needed sustainable efforts in Bolivia
Tweet

geral 1From November 14 to 17, the Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF) sponsored and participated in the VIII Pan-American Congress on Healthcare-Associated Infections and I Bolivian Congress on Healthcare-Associated Infections, which were simultaneously held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. PAHEF’s support of the Congresses, which were hosted by the Bolivian Association of Hospital Epidemiology and Control of Healthcare-Associated Infections (Asociación Boliviana de Epidemiología Hospitalaria y Control de Infecciones Asociadas a Servicios de Salud), was made possible through a grant from a fund created by the generosity of the People of Taiwan. This support was a natural extension of PAHEF’s previous efforts and has further helped establish it as a recognized leader in this field in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Eighteen of the 21 endemic countries in the Americas have experienced declines, while three have seen increases in malaria cases. The forum will allow discussion among health authorities and experts, students, academicians, partners, and the general public focusing on two areas:

       *   Decentralization and integration of malaria programs in health systems
       *   Elimination of malaria: possibilities and perspectives in the countries of the Americas.

The Malaria Champions of the Americas Award is an initiative of PAHO/WHO, PAHEF, and CGH that seeks to identify, celebrate, and provide avenues to emulate best practices and success stories in malaria prevention and control.
