The publication is an analysis of data from population-based health surveys of children under five years of age in 1986, 1996, and 2006 in northeastern Brazil. Dr. Lovadino and four co-authors used sophisticated epidemiologic methods to conduct time-series analyses of five possible causes of improvements in child under-nutrition. The article addresses one of the Millennium Development Goals, and the results have important policy implications for the development and public health programs in the Americas and globally. The article has been cited over 20 times according to the Scopus database.

“It is an honor to receive such a renowned international award, which magnificently encourages and represents public health literature at its highest level in Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Dr. Lovadino de Lima.

“Dr. Lovadino de Lima and her colleagues have presented an important contribution to the study of child nutrition that is beneficial to Brazil and beyond. PAHEF commends her and her colleagues for their work,” said Edward Kadunc, PAHEF president.
