Position

Reporting to and in partnership with the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), the Senior Director of Philanthropy (SDP) will spearhead targeted development efforts as PAHEF continues to rebuild and grow revenue from restricted and unrestricted sources. A new position in the organization, the SDP will have the opportunity to help build the development function in support of the public health efforts of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

Responsibilities

PAHEF seeks an experienced and entrepreneurial fundraiser to execute a comprehensive plan to secure funds from individual, corporate, and foundation donors, in collaboration with the CDO, staff, board members and volunteers within Canada, the United States and Latin America. The SDP will establish and manage an annual giving campaign and major and planned gifts program with specific goals and metrics. He/she will design and implement individual and corporate donor strategies for all prospects with the capacity to give six and seven figure gifts. He/she will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects/donors with relationship-building strategies and best practices. He/she will write proposals and collateral materials. He/she will manage and maintain annual calendar of strategic donor communication and cultivation events.   He/she will oversee daily operations such as budget development, donor tracking, records and reports.

In addition, he/she will apply fundraising technologies and techniques for maximum efficiency/productivity. He/she will represent the organization to prospective donors; engage board members, volunteers and PAHO staff in identification, cultivation and solicitation processes. He/she will develop and track proposals and create and implement a plan and tracking calendar for PAHEF’s corporate development strategy that responds to operational needs, projects, and the newly created PAHEF/PAHO joint strategic plan.

Knowledge

  • Ascribe to the AFP Code of Ethics and Donor Bill of Rights
  • Broad-based knowledge of fundraising, development programs, major gift campaigns, corporate support, cultivation and stewardship
  • Experience to track a metric based system to measure revenue growth
  • Ability to interface with high profile volunteers, major donor prospects, corporate community leaders and the research community
  • Technologically savvy about social media, e-philanthropy and other tech-driven approaches to community engagement, relationship management, marketing and fundraising
  • A passion for/interest in public health issues in the Americas
  • Ability to craft and articulate various public health cases for support
  • An engaging, approachable style with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • A collaborative, team member
  • Computer literate in fundraising software applications, such as eTapestry and Microsoft Office suites
  • Intellectual depth, maturity and interpersonal skills to foster trust and confident of the foundation’s leadership and donors
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience mentoring and supervising interns and staff
  • Some travel within region and on evenings and weekends as necessary

Qualifications

  • BA (required), MA/MPH/MBA/JD (a plus)
  • 5-7 years of progressive fundraising experience and demonstrated success securing individual, foundation and corporate gifts, ideally in health-related, non-profit settings
  • Demonstrated excellence in organization, managerial, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of database systems
  • Ability to speak Spanish, French or Portuguese, a plus

Salary Range: $80,000 to $95,000 with excellent benefits package
