José F. Parodi, MD, MPH

Dr. Jose Francisco Garcia Parodi is Professor of Geriatrics and Public Health in the Faculty of Human Medicine at the Universidad de San Martin de Porres of Peru (FMH-USMP), in undergraduate and graduate. He is also Director of Research Center on Aging - CIEN of the FMH-USMP. CIEN collaborates with the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) and participated in drafting the “Action Plan on the Health of Older Adults Including Active and Healthy Aging”, and multiple publications and consultancies nationally and internationally.

Clinically, Dr. Parodi worked for 16 years at the Geriatric Center of the Navy of Peru, as in clinics in Lima and in the Peruvian Amazonas jungle. He is currently Medical Director of Senior Health Services Bamboo, day clinic medicine specialist elderly.

He is author or coauthor of numerous articles in clinical journals and national and international books. He has participated as academic coordinator, speaker, moderator and speaker at various national and international courses.

Dr. Parodi has participated in projects on rural aging in Peru and Ecuador (SABE III - Ecuador), analyzing the characteristics of aging in these areas, emphasizing the responsiveness of health services to the health problems of the elderly and the adequacy and use of tools for geriatric assessment of Ministry Of Health. Also, during one of the projects in Peru they designed a teaching strategy to train health professionals in the use of tools for comprehensive geriatric assessment in rural older adults.

Dr. Parodi has advised on public health issues and aging in health and social ministries in Latin America. It is also an invited expert and temporary adviser to international institutions (ECLAC, PAHO / WHO) on the issue of aging in academic events and international health policy. External consultant's Research Center on Longevity, Aging and Health of Havana - Cuba. Member of executive committee of the Latin American Academy of Medicine for the Elderly (ALMA) from where he co-led a program to improve health and reduce disability in older people through training of primary care physicians in Peru and Colombia. Member of academic committee of the specialization course in Health Management Senior member of the Society of Geriatric Medicine (SEMEG) of Spain, a full member of the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology and a member of the International Committee of the Board - Colombian Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics. In Peru is member of the Peruvian Society of Geriatricians, serving currently as a member of the Board.

He studied human medicine at the Universidad San Martin de Porres, made a specialty of Geriatrics and graduate courses at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He completed the Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology and graduated Doctor of Medicine. He is a graduate of the Latin American Academy of Medicine for the Elderly.
