Dr. Kac is a well-recognized professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a researcher in nutritional epidemiology, particularly in mothers and children. Currently, he is a research fellow at the Brazilian National Research Council and at the Rio de Janeiro State Research Foundation. He has led and participated in a variety of national collaborative studies on various aspects of nutrition and weight gain. His research interests include nutritional education interventions, maternal obesity, and population nutritional assessment. Specifically, he has conducted research on various topics including nutritional epidemiology in pregnant women from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, physical growth in the children under the age of five in the Peruvian Amazon and malnutrition in Latin-American children.

He has served on the editorial boards of a number of well-respected health-related journals, including Reports on Public Health (Cadernos de Saúde Pública), and as a peer reviewer of several specialized journals such as the Pediatric Journal (Jornal de Pediatria), the Brazilian Journal of Women and Child Health (Revista Brasileira de Saúde Materno-Infantil), and the Brazilian Journal of Epidemiology (Revista Brasileira de Epidemiologia), among others. Dr. Kac has also published over 70 papers in top scientific journals and his work has been extensively cited. He has presented his research at more than a dozen scientific meetings. He is a member of the Brazilian Public Health Association, International Association of Epidemiology, and Brazilian Society of Food and Nutrition. Dr. Kac has also served as the president of the National Forum of Food and Nutrition Post-Graduate Program Coordinators (Fórum Nacional de Coordenadores de Programas de Pós-Graduação em Alimentação e Nutrição) and as a member of the Food and Nutrition in Collective Health Taskforce for the Brazilian Post-Graduate Association in Collective Health (Grupo de Trabalho Alimentação e Nutrição em Saúde Coletiva da Associação Brasileira de Pós-Graduação em Saúde Coletiva).

Dr. Kac received his bachelors from the State University of Rio de Janeiro. He received his doctorate in public health from the School of Public Health at the University of São Paulo and studied at the University of Oxford on a post-doctoral fellowship. Dr. Kac joined the board of trustees of the Pan American Health and Education Foundation in 2011.
