Moore Award for Excellence in Voluntary Service last night. WINGS received the award, which was jointly presented by Dr. Benjamin Caballero, chair of the board of directors of the Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF), and Dr. Mirta Roses Periago, director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), for its commitment to reproductive health and the unwavering dedication of its 211 volunteers.

Since 1999, WINGS has actively worked to improve the lives of Guatemalan families by providing them with education, access, and advocacy in family planning, reproductive health, and other public health programs and services. Today, WINGS runs five programs that reach more than 30,000 women, men, and youths and that have received international recognition for innovation and effectiveness.

Ms. Sue Patterson, the founder of WINGS, remarked, “WINGS is both humbled by and deeply thankful for the enormous honor of receiving the distinguished Clarence Moore Award for Voluntary Service. This award serves as recognition of our success at bringing family planning education and reproductive health services to Guatemalans and is a tribute to many years of hard work, a highly qualified staff and executive leadership team, and a network of loyal supporters around the world.”

“Nonprofits can have a profound effect on improving public health,” said Edward L. Kadunc, president of PAHEF. “WINGS is an outstanding example of how such an organization can reach a large population with vital health services that benefit women, men, and children. PAHEF applauds their inspiring work and wishes them continued success in advocating, educating, and promoting good reproductive health and family planning practices.”
