You can help save the lives of pregnant mothers throughout Latin America and the Caribbean

Each year, 22,000 women die from pregnancy-related causes in Latin America and the Caribbean, and countless more become disabled or seriously ill. Tragically, most of those deaths and other consequences are preventable.

The risk of women dying from pregnancy-related complications is one in 130, compared with one in 3,700 in North America. Each day 63 women die from complications during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

There are more than 11 million married women in the region, many of whom want contraceptive information to help them space their pregnancies, an important factor that has a direct impact on a woman’s health, well-being, and the outcome of her pregnancy.

Goals: Healthy mothers, healthy newborns, healthy families

  • Have access to integrated, holistic, quality care that meets their needs throughout their life cycle.
  • Have adequate prenatal care and maintain good hygiene during pregnancy, delivery and after delivery.
  • Get vaccinated against tetanus and take iron supplements during pregnancy.
  • Know the danger signs during pregnancy, childbirth and post delivery and request help when needed.
  • Seek the assistance of a skilled birth attendant when it is time to give birth.

Pregnant women need YOU to protect their health
