PAHEF at Work

PAHEF is dedicated to improving the health of the people of the Americas and, as a close partner of WHO, makes grants to support programs to:

  • improve the health of vulnerable populations infants, pregnant women, the elderly, and indigenous peoples;
  • treat and eliminate disease;
  • promote good public health behaviors;
  • build health system capacity;
  • use health technology/information technology;
  • train students and health workers; and
  • support disaster recovery, primarily in Latin America and the Caribbean.

PAHEF manages two outstanding programs. The PALTEX program provides discount medical and public health textbooks and materials to students and health workers at 580 schools and centers in 18 countries. The Foundation recognizes and promotes achievements in health leadership, voluntary service, health literature, veterinary public health and bioethics through its Awards in Excellence in Inter-American Public Health Program.
