PAHEF Partners with Other Organizations on Teen Pregnancy Prevention
All of us, including teenagers, have questions on our sexuality, our bodies, and our sexual health, regardless of in that stage of our life we are. Life can be dizzying and not always is easy to find accurate information when we need it. The “Your Life, Your Decision” / “Tu Vida, Tu Decision” campaign helps you to find those answers to your questions, to give you advice and resources on a variety of subjects related to reproduction and sexual and reproductive health.
Friday, September 26, 2008, is Teen Pregnancy Prevention Day in Latin America and the
Caribbean, part of the World Contraception Day. This day launches the global “Your Life, Your Decision” campaign. In Mexico City on September 26th, the campaign partners launched “Your Life, Your Decision” with the Sub-Secretary of Health for Promotion and Prevention of Mexico.
The Pan American Health and Education Foundation is a partner in this campaign where it is being celebrated 18 countries of Latin America. We support these countries’ efforts and those of the private sector to prevent unwanted pregnancies through accurate information on sexual health and contraceptive use. Hats off to them for focusing their communications towards and between teenagers with an emphasis on solutions!
Campaign events in 18 Latin American countries are continuing through the end of the year. For example, participants in Ecuador are holding a journalist contest as a way to help increase knowledge among Ecuadorian youth on the importance of contraceptive use and reproductive health in order to make informed choices. Eligible contestants are young people between 14 and 18 years old that belong to the schools participating in the “Your Life, Your Decision” campaign. The theme of their articles include Sexuality and Me, Freed to Love and to Live—How to Care for Myself, and How Can I Help Prevent Adolescent Pregnancy. To learn more about the contest, click here.
